Control Resonant is set in a paranaturally warped Manhattan that has been reshaped by The Patterning, the Hiss, and the Mold. It is not a traditional open-world game. Instead, it uses large, distinct, handcrafted zones that players can explore more freely after the opening hours.
Confirmed / Mentioned Locations & Zones
| Location / Zone | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| West Incursion Zone | Early explorable area; architecture folds in on itself, unpredictable gravity | One of the first major zones shown |
| The Park | Heavily overrun by the Mold | Home of The Collective Resonant; Mold samples needed here |
| The Sinkhole | Deep fracture / cylindrical chasm with Escher-like apartment maze | Linear “dungeon”-style mission with heavy gravity shifting |
| FBC Field Office | Central hub in Manhattan | Grows over time with more resources and agents; customization point |
| Gravity Anomaly Areas | Zones where walls, ceilings, and floors become walkable surfaces | Require the Shift ability |
| Oldest House (opening) | Starting area for the tutorial / escape sequence | Dylan begins here before heading into the city |
Key Location Details
- After the first 1–2 hours, multiple zones open up and you can freely move between them.
- Zones are separated by temporary FBC “firebreaks” to prevent cross-contamination of threats.
- Each zone has its own atmosphere, enemy types, side activities, lore, and secrets.
- Some zones lean more toward main story content; others emphasize side content and exploration.
- Real-world Manhattan landmarks are not directly recreated. Locations are inspired by the city but given a twisted, Remedy-style reinterpretation.
- Architecture frequently folds, tilts, or becomes multi-oriented due to The Patterning.
How Locations Interact with Progression
- Doing activities in a zone levels that zone (grants talent points + improvements like better health drops or revealed loot).
- Defeating a Resonant causes a Resonant Surge that affects the wider world (stronger enemies appear, side content refreshes).
A full interactive map and detailed location guides will become available after the game launches on September 24, 2026.
