Control Resonant Best Builds Overview (Pre-Launch – September 2026)

Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026, so there is no official or community-tested “best” build yet. All recommendations below are based on the combat systems shown in previews and developer statements.

The game strongly rewards aggression. There is no block or parry — Power (ability resource) only regenerates from melee hits, and health is mostly recovered by killing enemies. The core loop is:

Melee → Build Power → Use Abilities (build Falter) → Execute → Gain Dominance (damage boost) → Repeat

Recommended Build Frameworks

Here are three strong playstyle directions based on known systems:

Build TypePlaystyle FocusSuggested Aberrant FormsKey AbilitiesStrengthsBest Against
Aggressive Crit / FlurryFast single-target & mobilityPrimary: Flurry / Dual Blades
Secondary: Drill or Needle
Ignite, Push, BarrageHigh crit, quick Executions, constant Power generationMost enemies, bosses with weak points
Crowd Control / SweepMulti-target & zone controlPrimary: Slash / Scythe
Secondary: Extend or Crush
Shield, Ground Slam, Heat WaveClearing groups, safe positioningDense enemy packs, Mold areas
Summon / TacticalLet allies do work while you stay mobilePrimary: Slice or Flurry
Secondary: Any
Growth / Seekers, Spore Burst, ShieldSafer play, status effects, good for learningHarder encounters, gravity arenas

Early-Game Priority Tips

  • Focus on melee forms that feel good to you first — the game is designed so different forms create different rhythms.
  • Prioritize abilities that help build Falter quickly (Barrage, Ignite, Push, etc.).
  • Fire-based abilities (Ignite / Heat options) are especially strong against Mold enemies.
  • Use Artifacts to fine-tune (examples from demos: damage boosts, gravity anomaly bonuses, sharp damage).
  • Talent points should lean into synergies between your chosen weapon forms and abilities (e.g., more Power generation, better Executions, dodge improvements).

Important Notes

  • Not everything can be unlocked in one playthrough — this is intentional. Different builds will shine on different Resonants.
  • You can freely respec in The Gap (costs resources).
  • New Game+ expands options (extra talent nodes, ability combinations from the same Resonant, fourth Artifact slot).

Current “Safest” Recommendation for First Playthrough

Start with a fast dual-blade / Flurry-style Primary + a high-Falter Secondary (Drill or similar), pair it with Ignite or Barrage, and lean into Perfect Dodges + Execution loops. This matches the aggressive design philosophy Remedy has repeatedly emphasized.

Once the game is out and players have theorycrafted endgame setups, the true meta builds will emerge. For now, experiment in The Gap and adapt to each Resonant — that is the intended experience.

Would you like a more detailed breakdown for a specific playstyle (crit assassin, heavy hitter, summoner, etc.)?
