Folks whine that she “doesn’t feel tanky enough,” but that’s on bad builds. Without the right shell and stats, Holen’s S3 wipes her ramp before it starts. Build her smart, though, and enemies will straight-up punish themselves for touching her. She’s not as CC-immune as Ray or Tiamat—Tiamat’s random transform AOE can shred squishies in two cycles—but Lowan picks off targets 1v1 and scales like a champ. Bruiser mirrors? She’s untouchable.

Lowan’s shell flexibility is her biggest strength. Here’s every solid option, broken down by matchup:

1. Artisan (King of Mirror Matches)

• Best for: Straight Lowan/Holen mirrors and tank-down drafts.
• Why it bangs: Huge tankiness and damage boost. She cycles turns non-stop, spamming Artisan shields on teammates for crazy sustain. Go full speed (no block) to dodge Holen resets.
• Pairing: Slap Bullwark on it if you have to, but speed first.
• Downsides: Trash outside mirrors. Not much of that in the meta rn, so bench it unless drafts go tank-heavy.
• When to run it: Seeing 3+ bruisers? Pull it out. Otherwise, nah.

2. Cleave (High-Risk, High-Reward Speed Freak)

• Best for: Cleave mirrors—strip and taunt the lead, then swap targets.
• Why it works: Codex of Magic on S3 for strip-into-taunt locks down their first unit. 340+ speed allowance, full speed, no block.
• Pairing: All-in on cleave.
• Downsides: Least flexible build. Gets wrecked by CC or non-cleave. Niche only.
• When to run it: If you’re cleaving and they don’t have Holen/CC.

3. Ouroboros or Jackal Guard (Anti-Holen Bullwark Champs)

• My pick: Ouroboros edges out Jackal Guard—better base stats, tankier all around.
• Best for: Holen spam and light CC.
• Why Ouro wins: Bullwark is the star, but Ouro’s stats beat Jackal’s diminishing returns. Jackal’s 40% TM speed buff gets outrun by Plume/Fusho/Lily passives—Lowan has her own TM tricks anyway.
• Pairing: Bullwark only. Decent vs CC too.
• Downsides: You have to be speedy; slow = Holen resets food.
• When to run it: Holen bans drop—grab for sustain.

4. Amber (My Main – Meta Slayer)

• Best for: Cleave + aggro CC topping ladders.
• Why it’s meta: Deflects bursts, eats cleave hits, and tanks CC. Full speed (Bluff maxed) or force Bullwark for attack focus.
• Pairing: Crit damage/rate heavy. Spoiler: This is my jam.
• Downsides: Elite cleavers (Santics/Nahor pros) abuse it. But 90% of players can’t climb the city.
• When to run it: 80% of drafts. Cleave counter: swap Bullwark vs pure Holen.

Amber vs. Cleave, Bullwark (Ouro) vs. Holen/CC. Cleavers? Any works. Artisan waits for mirror surge.

My Low-End Build: Speed + Crit = Unkillable

This is what I’m slapping on—tuned for low-end gear but scales to god rolls. Goal: Max speed with fat crit.

• Shell: Amber (meta deflect god).
• Stat Priority: Crit Dmg > Crit Rate (80-85%) > Def % > Speed (300+ must-have).
• Targets: 80% CR / 300 SPD floor. 85% CR feels way smoother—grinding mine up now.
• Substats: Crank SPD >310 to beat Plume. Why? Draft Plume and Lowan vs. their Holen? She moves first—no post-Plume reset.
• Skill-Ups: 545 (ideal). Max S1/S4/S5. Old guides said 515 (OK on Amber), but she’s S-tier—splurge. Skip CDR unless extras.

Why does this slap? Amber tanks better than Holen on paper, but speed/Bullwark dodges reset. No Bramble/Strive = less auto-punish, but crit ramp one-shots anyway. Holen feels tankier because hitting him is suicide (counters/breaks), but Lowan makes them dodge.
